Board + Train vs Day Train?

Board + Train = Puppy is dropped off at trainer’s home directly from the breeder/rescue and stays with trainer 1-4 weeks in an immersive training experience.
Day Train = Puppy is dropped off at trainer’s home M-F for 4-6 hours/daily in order to practice training skills in a structured environment.

How do I know what program is right for my puppy/family?

It really comes down to how much knowledge, time and capacity you have to commit to your dog in the early days of puppyhood.

Board + Train
Pros:
Quicker results due to controlled environment, built-in socialization to other dogs and puppies, children and daily sights and sounds, outsourcing potty training and crate training means not having to deal with a whining puppy or cleaning up potty messes, your future self will thank you
Cons: Having to wait longer before your puppy comes home
Day + Train
Pros:
1) Learn side by side with your puppy- each day your puppy will work on training skills that you can then practice at home in between day train lessons. 2) Allows families to learn in bite size pieces with the guidance of a trained professional. 3) More time with your puppy during the snuggling, sleepy phase of life 4) A great option for working families unable to let puppy go potty every 2-3 hours.
Cons: 1) Requires more upfront commitment in training in between day train lessons 2) Potential inconsistencies between trainer’s home and family’s home could delay puppy mastering training goals 3) Logistically not available to those that live too far to commute to/from Castle Rock or have time restrictions during drop off/pick up times.

What’s included in each program?

Day Care + Train: 5 training lessons/week, 5 days of daycare/week, 1 private lesson/week (scheduled after puppy goes home), training leash, and training PDFs to include list of commands, puppy’s daily rhythm and problem solving common puppy issues
Board + Train: Same as above + 7 days of overnight boarding/week, boarding privileges in the future ($60/night plus add-ons)

What can I expect of my dog after training?

Bare minimum, we want all our puppy students to go home being able to be calm in a crate 2-3 hours during the day and 4-6 hours overnight. The longer the puppy stays in training, the more reliable and “distraction-proof” the puppy will be. Our goal is to communicate effectively with the puppy to make it very clear what behavior(s) we are looking for and what behaviors are discouraged. Then, our goal is to give you the tools (and confidence) to continue the training and trust building at home. It’s important to note that as dogs grow, adjust to their new environment, and become more independent new challenges may arise. Relying on the tools and communication skills learned during the Puppy Pre-K program will help you thrive through the adolescent months and beyond.
